Gunnar takes First in the UFC-Grappler's Quest Tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada!

We are so proud of him. He had some very tough matches, but as you can see from his first match, he was in control the whole time. Enjoy! Hail the Future of our Folk! Hail ORV Team Fyrd!

Awesome Championship

Today found Team Fyrd in the Subleague championships. And WHAT A DAY!!!

Hakon and Gunnar 1st place! Hakon hard fought matches and Gunnar, well....what can I say.....GREAT JOB....

But....Today....belonged....to....ERIKA!!

She didn't place. She won 2 and lost 6 matches, but that isn't the end of the story!

Here is what her coach had to say (and her father):

"I have been helping her train and coaching her for several years now. To be there the moment when the tides turned for her was indescribable. She went from children's division, teen to women's in a matter of three years. I witnessed her train her heart out at practice, the track, silently by herself in her room. I have seen Erika face her fears time and again against intimidating opponents, not ever backing down or giving up. Today was the day all her hard work and perseverance paid off. All I can say is that we are all so proud of her and that the women's division *better* prepare." Asrekyr OR

And that is it in a nutshell. We have been calling Erika our Kettlebell Queen. I have come home and wondered where Erika was to find she was doing kettlebells in her room.

Her strength shone today. She picked up 120+ women to dump them off and escape armbars.....amazing.

She lost more than she won, but she in heart she won more than she lost. A Champion.

Videos and Pix to come!

Ostara Is Coming!

Ostara is the time when the Sun and Warmth of Spring and Summer finally triumphs over the Dark and Coldness of Fall and Winter. It is a time to Rejoice in our Surviving another Winter both literally and spiritually. I personally feel very renewed. We have been quiet over the Winter, regenerating, renewing and reflecting on our past year. It has been a great introspection and I feel like I can attack the year full board.

So our community is quickly planning our upcoming Ostara celebration. It includes three Hearths in the area: Donar's Hearth OR, Thunar's Kin Hearth AOR, and RavensHalla Hearth for around 35 people. It is an amazing time with games, crafts and plenty of goodies. We are currently discussing a site to have it. Anyone who knows the PNW, knows the difficulty of figuring out the weather...it is a real toss up in Spring (or really any season here). So I will announce our official itinerary when we have all that figured out.

Until then, check out our very special Ostara section on the Acorn Hollow website:
www.odinic-rite.org/acornhollow

I will end with the OR's Children's Invocation:

Odin and Ostara, lead me in the ways of the Gods.
May I be honest and true to my family and friends.
Teach me to care for the animals, trees, flowers and birds.
Guard me and my family and may we always have your blessings.

Hail Ostara!

Our Folk Community Celebrates a Triple Birthday

Yes we have three children that have birthday's within weeks of each other. So we as a group decided to have a birthday blowout.

The kids? Hakon 10, Jesse 10, and Magnus 8.

We parents of the three children decided to have a party at JJ Jump. Jesse's Mom, Tammy, got a good deal on the party, so we thought that the party would be the kids' present. It worked out really well and had everyone in our community plus a couple more attend. Here are pictures from our Birthday Blowout!

As you can see it was a blast for the kids. All of them asked to do it again for the next set of birthdays. Although not "traditional", it was a blast. It built comradeship among our children and friends. A couple of the families we had not seen in many months due to illness and schedule conflicts. It was great to see our friends again. It reminds of this Havamal verse:

34. Long is the road to a false friend leading, e'en if he dwell on the way: but though far off fared, to a faithful friend straight are the roads and short.

Although the distance between our homes is long, the path is straight and short :).

No Post since Yule!!!

Man...Yule wore me out apparently! :)

Well lots has been going on, but I will post that in a moment. I just want everyone to know things have been great on the home front and the Folk front. Our community has been meeting and socializing and planning.

I have a daughter turning 18 in a couple weeks.....time flies. She is growing into such a great woman. I am so proud of her. Hail Astrid Oriana Metzger! A tribute to the women of her line.

Ok on to the haps in our area :)
