"Many hands make for light work"
So the saying goes, and the families involved with Acorn Hollow exemplify this very phrase. On July 12, 2008, Acorn Hollow PNW hosted a benefit dinner for the Scandinavian Camp 2008. It was a full 5-course dinner with all handmade Scandinavian Dishes.
The menu consisted of:
Course 1- Appetizer: Pannakukr-Iceland, Sandwich Cake--Finland, Viking Cheese Bombe--Norway
Course 2-Soup: Scandinavian Beans
Course 3-Salad: Cucumber Salad-All over Scandinavia
Course 4-Main Course: Norwegian Meatballs and Mashed Potatoes, Smoked Sea Bass (Caught on our fishing trip during Moot), and Lingon Berries.
Course5-Dessert: Rosettes-Norway, Raspberry and Wine Soup over vanilla ice-cream-Swedish.
Jodi AOR, Brandon AOR, Hyndla OR, Asrekyr OR and Chris all worked very hard to bring a special cultural dinner to our Folk Community.
Although people were there to eat, some delicious Scandinavian delicacies, we didn't just serve food; we offered a glimpse at Scandinavian Culture and Heritage. Each of the Families made a information board and brought cultural items that reflect one of the five areas of Scandinavia. Each family that attended was able to take home a full size booklet that featured historical information, recipes, coloring sheets and puzzles from each of the countries. This booklet was a culmination of hard work from all corners of Odin's Holy Nation. Special thanks to Jennifer AOR and Hengest OR for their tireless work as well as our families that helped provide the historical content and recipes.
The evening was filled with many discussions of the upcoming facility. Many offered help on many aspects of the process from funding to renovations. Although many lament about the funding aspect, bringing about such a project isn't just the money invested, but the time and dedication to maintain it. From the very young to the young at heart, the Scandinavian Fundraising Dinner helped to not only weave the fabric of community, but also solidify the bonds that have been forged over the past 2 years.
Thank you Acorn Hollow Families. Each of your efforts helped to make this a special, one-of-a-kind event. It was a labor of love and an honor to bring it to our community.
