Yes I was one of the suckers that went with my daughters and their friends to the midnight release of this book. LOL I had a nice chat with another mom, Rhonda. I have been trying to come out of my shell more. I tend to go about my business not chatting with Folks, but following the example of my hubby--who has really become quite the socialite--I have been chatting with other people while in line at the store, or out and about. Really nice woman that was there with her youngest. She had read the books, and we chatted about them. She really liked them, even though it wasn't her preference either. It was a nice chat. Nice to talk to a mom of older kids that has "been there done that" and come out the other end just fine. :)
I have never read this series, but apparently it is quite popular. I know they have been reading them, and like many other books they read, I get the full scoop on the story. Still have no real interest in reading them, but they like them!
I am more of a "non-fiction" reader. I like history books or historical books, reference books, etc...
Anyway, what a crazy scene the Barnes and Nobles was with kids and adults dressed up as characters. Vampire bite stations, treasure hunts--which was actually neat--artist contests, and pictionary from the book. The girls had fun, but did NOT like the snotty teenagers that would scream for no reason--well except that it was 15 mins till midnight, and the nerdy atmosphere. It was like a star trek convention for Stephanie Meyer books...lmao. I must say....one of the character's favorite books is Wuthering Heights-a classic. So one of my daughters decided to read it out of curiousity--although man Thora devours those Victorian classics...loves Jane Austin and Emily Bronte. Nice "side effect," so hopefully other teens will too!
I may read one of the books...if I can stomach it. Right now though I am working on a book on DVD from my Bro Hengest--1984 by George Orwell. I have the hard copy, but I work so much on the comp now between telecommuting to work and OR/AH, that it just is easier to listen to it. I am really enjoying it and wondering why I never read it before. Reminds me alot of Iron Heel by Jack London. If anyone has read 1984...great movie that reminds me of the story so far is Equilibrium with my fav actor right now Christian Bale....great flick.
Ok nuff blathering!
